Fotona Laser Treatments
explained, one by one.

One laser platform. Six treatments. Honest limits for each.

Several of the non-surgical treatments at U Eye Laser Cosmetic (UELC) run on one medical laser platform: Fotona. This page explains what the platform is in plain terms, then walks through each Fotona treatment we offer: what it treats, who it suits and who it does not, sessions in general terms, and where its limits lie.

What the Fotona Platform Is

Two wavelengths,
one principle.

Fotona is a medical laser system with two wavelengths in one device. Both work the same way at heart: controlled warmth prompts tissue to contract and build new collagen over the following weeks and months.

The treatments on this page do not cut, lift or reposition tissue, and they add no foreign substance. That is why results arrive gradually, usually over a short series, and are maintained over time rather than permanent.

◈
Er:YAG

Absorbed strongly by water, so it works on the outermost layers of the skin with precision. In its gentlest settings it warms tissue rather than removing it, which is how it is used for the lips, the eye area and the soft palate.

◉
Nd:YAG

Passes through the surface and heats the deeper layers of the skin without injuring the top. It is used for deep tightening of the face and body.

◯
Who delivers it

At UELC these treatments are delivered by our Medical Aestheticians, who work with the same medical-grade laser technology our ophthalmologists use, under physician supervision in a surgeon-led clinic.

The Treatments

Six treatments,
each with its limits.

Laser · Signature Fotona 4D Facial firming and rejuvenation
DowntimeMinimalSessionsShort series

A non-surgical laser facial that works the skin at four depths in one session. It suits mild to moderate skin laxity, fine lines, and uneven texture and tone.

What it treats

Four modes run in order: SmoothLiftin, applied from inside the mouth to firm the lower face and soften nose-to-mouth lines; FRAC3, for uneven pigment, mild redness, pores and texture below the surface; PIANO, a long deep-heating pulse that drives the firming; and SupErficial, a light laser peel for the surface.

Who it suits

People whose skin has begun to lose firmness but who do not have a large amount of loose skin, and who want a gradual refresh without surgery or downtime. Darker skin tones carry a slightly higher chance of temporary pigment change, so skin type is part of planning.

Sessions and limits

Under an hour per session, with mild redness and warmth for a few hours. Some tightening is visible immediately; the lasting change builds over three to six months, commonly across three to four sessions a few weeks apart, and is maintained with periodic touch-ups.

Honest note

It is not a facelift: it does not remove skin or fat or reposition deeper tissue, so significant laxity in the jowls, neck or eyelids calls for a surgical consultation. An active skin infection, certain skin conditions and pregnancy are reasons to wait.

Non-invasive NightLase Laser treatment for snoring
DowntimeNoneSessionsShort series

A comfortable, no-device laser course that gently firms the tissue of the soft palate, reducing the vibration that causes snoring. No appliance to wear, no downtime.

What it treats

Snoring and the disrupted sleep that comes with it, for you or for a partner. Gentle laser warmth tightens the soft-palate tissue so it vibrates less as you breathe.

Who it suits

People whose snoring disrupts their own sleep or a partner’s and who want a non-surgical option with nothing to wear at night.

Sessions and limits

A short series, with improvement building afterward. The effect is maintained with occasional repeat treatment rather than permanent, and the degree of improvement varies from person to person.

Honest note

At UELC, NightLase is mainly used to treat snoring. Its effectiveness for obstructive sleep apnea may be limited, and we do not offer it as a sleep apnea treatment. Diagnosed or suspected sleep apnea needs a medical sleep assessment first; if your snoring comes with daytime exhaustion, gasping or witnessed pauses in breathing, we will point you there.

Laser · Eye area SmoothEye Gentle firming for the eye area
DowntimeLittle to noneSessionsShort series

A gentler Er:YAG setting made for the thin skin around the eyes, which is too delicate for deeper resurfacing. Targeted warmth firms the skin and stimulates a little fresh collagen.

What it treats

Fine, crepey eye-area skin and a tired look, where a subtle improvement with little or no downtime is the goal.

Who it suits

People who want to refine skin quality around the eyes without surgery, and who understand the change is gradual and subtle.

Sessions and limits

Comfortable, with little to no downtime; subtle tightening builds over a short series. It refines skin quality and does not change eyelid position.

Honest note

SmoothEye cannot remove a fold of excess upper-lid skin or lift true hooding. Where the concern is structural, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is the honest answer, and we can arrange that conversation. Because the eye area and dry-eye health are linked, we work with the U Dry Eye Institute (UDEI) where the eyes themselves need care.

Laser · Needle-free LipLase Needle-free lip rejuvenation
DowntimeEssentially noneSessionsShort series

Gentle, controlled warmth to the inner lining and outer surface of the lips prompts new collagen, so over a series the lips firm, texture smooths, and they look modestly fuller and more defined. No substance is added.

What it treats

Lips that have lost a little firmness or definition, and fine vertical lines around the mouth, for people who want a natural, understated change.

Who it suits

People who prefer no needles and no injected material, and who are comfortable with a gradual result that builds over a few sessions.

Sessions and limits

About fifteen to thirty minutes per session with essentially no downtime. The result builds across a small series a few weeks apart and is maintained with occasional upkeep. It is a refresh, not a transformation.

Honest note

Anyone wanting pronounced, immediate volume will be better served by a filler. An active cold sore or infection around the lips, certain skin conditions, pregnancy, or a history of significant reaction to laser treatment are reasons to wait or be assessed first.

Laser · Body TightSculpting Non-invasive skin tightening
DowntimeNoneSessionsSeries

Fotona’s non-invasive laser treatment for skin laxity on the body. It uses the same principle as the other treatments on this page: controlled laser warmth in the deeper layers of the skin prompts existing collagen to tighten and new collagen to form.

What it treats

Mild to moderate skin laxity where gradual, natural-looking firming without incisions or downtime is the goal.

Who it suits

People with skin that has lost some firmness but who do not have a large amount of loose skin, and who are comfortable with a result that builds over time.

Sessions and limits

Improvement is progressive over the weeks after each session, usually as a series with maintenance. Individual response varies, and the right plan is set at your consultation.

Honest note

It is not a weight-loss treatment, and it does not replace surgery where there is significant loose skin. We will tell you candidly if it is unlikely to help.

Laser + PRP HAIRestart Laser + PRP for thinning hair
DowntimeNoneSessionsSeries

A Fotona laser scalp treatment combined with PRP, platelet-rich plasma drawn from a small sample of your own blood and delivered into the scalp, to support thinning hair.

What it treats

Early thinning, where follicles are weakened but still present. The laser scalp treatment is combined with PRP, whose growth factors support weakened follicles to encourage thicker, healthier growth. Because the PRP is your own, an allergic reaction to it is not a concern.

Who it suits

People noticing early thinning who want a non-surgical approach and are prepared for a course of sessions rather than a single visit.

Sessions and limits

No real downtime. Benefit builds over a course of sessions, then ongoing maintenance. Response varies, and because hair loss has many causes a medical assessment may be recommended first.

Honest note

It cannot bring back follicles that are no longer there, so it is not a treatment for advanced hair loss. Started early, results are better; we will tell you candidly if it is unlikely to help.

What We’ll Tell You Candidly

Gradual by design.
Not for everything.

Every treatment on this page works by prompting your own collagen, which sets expectations for all of them. We would rather you hear the limits from us than discover them later.

Results build slowly. Some tightening can be visible immediately, but the lasting change arrives over weeks to months, across a short series rather than a single visit.
Results are maintained, not permanent. Collagen turns over continually, so most people keep their result with periodic maintenance sessions.
Laser and PRP are not surgery. Significant loose skin, true eyelid hooding or advanced hair loss need a different conversation, and we will say so plainly.
Some conditions mean waiting. Active infection at the treatment site, certain skin conditions and pregnancy are reasons to wait or to be assessed first.
Individual response varies. No treatment on this page can promise a specific result; your consultation is where we tell you what is realistic for you.
Common Questions

Good to know.

Fotona is a medical laser platform that combines two wavelengths, Er:YAG and Nd:YAG, in one system. Different settings let the same device treat the skin, the lips, the scalp and the soft palate.

Most people describe warmth rather than pain, and numbing is available where appropriate. Mild redness for a few hours to a day or two is typical for skin treatments. There is essentially no enforced downtime for any treatment on this page.

Because these treatments work by prompting your own collagen, results build gradually and most need a short series, followed by occasional maintenance. The right number depends on the treatment and your goals, which we map out at your consultation rather than over-promise.

At UELC, NightLase is mainly used to treat snoring. Its effectiveness for obstructive sleep apnea may be limited, so we do not offer it as a sleep apnea treatment. Sleep apnea is a medical condition that needs a proper sleep assessment and medical management. If your snoring comes with daytime exhaustion, gasping or witnessed pauses in breathing, we will direct you to a sleep evaluation first.

Fotona treatments at UELC are delivered by our Medical Aestheticians, clinically trained skin specialists who work with the same medical-grade laser technology our ophthalmologists use, under physician supervision in a surgeon-led clinic.
