Dr. Eric S. Tam

Dr. Eric S. Tam is a cataract and refractive surgery subspecialist and Division Head of Ophthalmology at the William Osler Health System. He is the Medical Director of Uptown Eye Specialists, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine. Dr. Tam is the Surgeon Principal Investigator for the ReLACS multi-centre study on refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery, with over 25 peer-reviewed publications. He is a Board Member of FORSEE Canada and is affiliated with William Osler Health System and Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Raj Maini

Dr. Raj Maini is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with one of the broadest surgical scopes at Uptown Eye Specialists, encompassing cataract surgery, refractive surgery, corneal procedures, and oculoplastic surgery. This versatility allows him to address multiple aspects of a patient’s eye care needs within a single practice.
With over 30 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Maini is an active contributor to ophthalmic research. He has co-authored publications with U Vision Group colleagues, reflecting the collaborative, research-driven culture of the practice.
Dr. Maini’s clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of anterior segment surgery, from routine cataract extraction with premium IOL implantation to complex corneal and oculoplastic procedures. He is committed to providing thorough, evidence-based care with a focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for each patient.
Dr. Sangsu Han

Dr. Sangsu Han is an oculoplastics and orbital surgery subspecialist at Uptown Eye Specialists. He completed his ophthalmology residency at McMaster University and an oculoplastics and orbital surgery fellowship at McMaster University. Dr. Han received the Best Paper of Session award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Mark Cohen Prize in Ophthalmology from the University of Ottawa. He has authored 11 peer-reviewed publications in journals including the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science. He is fluent in English and Korean, and is affiliated with William Osler Health System and Trillium Health Partner.
Kushum Acharya

Kushum Acharya is a Vision Care Consultant within the U Vision Group network, with a background in optometry and orthoptics. She earned a Bachelor of Optometry from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi and has experience assessing ocular motility and binocular vision, alongside a broad range of diagnostic testing — including visual fields, OCT, pachymetry, and intraocular pressure measurement.
Across clinical and optical settings in the Greater Toronto Area she is known for attentive, high-quality patient care. She works with patients in English, Hindi, and Nepali.

Francis Lam

Francis Lam is a Vision and Dry Eye Care Consultant within the U Vision Group network. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Optometry from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he was named Outstanding Student of his faculty, and built his early career in eye care in Hong Kong before settling in the Greater Toronto Area, where he qualified as a licensed optician.
He is highly experienced with advanced diagnostic equipment — including OCT, visual field analysis, Optomap, and corneal topography — as well as a full range of dry eye assessments and treatments such as IPL, low-level light therapy, iLux, and meibomian gland expression. Francis works with patients in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Komal Patel is a Vision Care Consultant within the U Vision Group network. She completed a Bachelor of Optometry in India and has more than a decade of clinical eye-care experience, including advanced patient-counselling training for premium intraocular lenses.
In her consultant role she guides patients through their refractive surgery options — including LASIK, SMILE, PRK and refractive lens exchange — and carries out comprehensive pre- and post-operative assessments. Her day-to-day work spans patient history, visual acuity and refraction, lensometry, intraocular pressure measurement, slit-lamp examination, and diagnostic imaging such as Pentacam, iTrace and fundus photography, supporting patients before and after cataract and laser procedures.
Komal works with patients in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
