U Eye Laser Cosmetic, part of the U Vision Group family, is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your personal and personal health information. This policy explains what we collect, how we use and protect it, and your rights. It reflects our obligations under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Information We Collect

Through this website we collect only the limited information you choose to provide — such as your name, email address, phone number, and a brief reason for your inquiry. In the course of providing vision correction and aesthetic care, we also hold the personal health information necessary for your safe treatment (for example, your ocular and medical history, examination findings, procedure details, and the records generated during your care).

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to coordinate and deliver your care, to communicate with you and — where relevant — your referring optometrist, to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and to respond to inquiries you send us. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

How We Protect Your Information

We maintain administrative, physical, and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold. Wherever practical, your information is stored on systems located in Canada (Canadian data residency). Access is restricted to those who need it to provide or support your care.

Disclosure of Information

We may share your personal health information within the U Vision Group network to coordinate your care (for example, dry-eye screening before laser surgery or treatment at our surgical centre), and with your referring optometrist and care team for the purpose of your treatment and follow-up. Otherwise, we disclose it only with your consent or as permitted or required by law.

Records Retention

Medical records are retained in accordance with the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario — generally at least ten years from the date of last entry, or, for a patient who was a minor, ten years from the date the patient reached or would have reached the age of majority.

Third-Party Services

Some functions on this website rely on third-party service providers — for example, appointment scheduling through Calendly and optional messaging through WhatsApp. Information you submit through these tools is handled under their respective privacy policies. Where a provider processes information outside Canada, that information may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is held. We ask that you not share sensitive personal health details through web forms or messaging — we will collect what we need securely when you book.

Email Communications

In keeping with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), we send commercial electronic messages only where we have your consent or another lawful basis, we identify ourselves clearly, and we include a way to unsubscribe at any time.

This website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site and to understand how it is used, in line with your consent preferences. You can manage your preferences through your browser settings and our consent banner.

Your Rights

You have the right to access and request correction of your personal health information, and to ask questions about how it is handled. To make a request, please contact us using the details below. If you have a concern we cannot resolve, you may contact the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario at ipc.on.ca or 1-800-387-0073.

Text messages and email verification codes

Appointments with U Eye Laser Cosmetic can be viewed through our shared appointment lookup, hosted at uptowneye.ca — U Vision Group's clinics share one clinical record. When you use it, we send a one-time verification code to the mobile number or email address already recorded on your patient file. The code confirms it is you before any appointment information is shown.

We only ever send the code to contact details already on your file. You cannot type in a phone number or email address, and neither can anyone else on your behalf. If your contact details are out of date, please call us at (416) 292-0339 so we can correct them.

What we send. One-time verification codes only. We do not send appointment reminders, marketing, promotions or newsletters to this number. A verification code message contains no appointment details, no doctor's name and no clinic location.

Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out of text messages, or HELP for help. Opting out of text messages does not affect your care — you can still use the appointment lookup by email, or call us at (416) 292-0339.

Text messages and email are not secure. They can be read by anyone with access to your phone or your inbox. We keep the content of these messages to the minimum for that reason. If you would rather not receive information this way, please tell us and we will note it on your file.

How long we keep it. We record that a code was requested and whether it was used, as part of the access log we are required to keep. We do not keep the code itself once it has been used or has expired.

Who handles the message. Text messages and emails are delivered by Microsoft Azure Communication Services on our behalf, with data stored in Canada. They act as our service provider and may not use your information for their own purposes.
